If you are struggling with depression then you may have felt the overwhelming sense of helplessness or hopelessness that typifies the condition. While you may feel like you’re struggling to get out of the hole, we know that depression comes from the cognitive distortions and thought patterns. Hypnotherapy is a wonderful tool that has been used with great success in the treatment of depression by breaking down old cognitive distortions and helping you to find the resources within you to create new and more effective patterns.
As with anxiety, whilst you may feel a sense of loneliness when you’re struggling with depression, the patterns of depression that we run are always the same and include:
- Excessive rumination
- A sense of being out of control
- A sense of helplessness or hopelessness
- Sleep disturbance
- A strong focus on the past – particularly with negative thinking.
Many people suffering with depression are offered medication or drugs to help their symptoms. It’s important to know that whilst medication can support symptom relief, it does not help you to change your thinking patterns or develop the skills and more useful processes. Hypnotherapy is a fantastic tool to help you increase your resilience, develop your own coping strategies and eliminate depression.
